Land care funding now at work

LOCAL land care groups have benefited from this year’s Victorian Government Landcare Grants.

Totalling $3.98 million, the money is destined to support volunteer groups and networks in protecting and restoring natural landscapes.

Across the state, grants of up to $20,000 have been allocated to 245 on-ground projects and support grants of $500 have also been allocated to 269 environmental volunteer groups to assist with administration and running costs.

Victorian Landcare Grants support Biodiversity 2037, the Victorian Government’s long-term plan to protect Victoria’s environment.

The North Central Catchment Management Authority region has received more than $350,000 that has been allocated to 27 on-ground projects and educational activities focused on biodiversity protection.

North Central CMA regional Landcare co-ordinator Belinda Pritchard said funding such as this to support volunteers and their communities helps secure the region’s environment for generations to come.

“All these groups do amazing work in protecting and restoring our natural assets,” Ms Pritchard said.

“The North Central CMA is proud to be able to coordinate the local funding to help these groups continue to provide this invaluable service to our communities and landscapes.”
