Westwind community liaison

WESTWIND Energy has appointed a community liaison for its proposed Normanville Energy Park development.

WestWind chief development officer Marla Brauer said Normanville Energy Park would play a pivotal role in addressing the urgent need to reduce carbon emissions and combat climate change.

She said by harnessing the power of wind, the clean energy generated by this project was expected to power more than 90,000 Victorian homes with clean, low-cost electricity, saving 300,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide annually.

Ms Brauer said WestWind Energy was thrilled to be strengthening grassroots connections in northern Victoria by employing Alastair Mitton as their Kerang community liaison, who would help to support the Normanville Energy Park development.

“This Swan Hill local has come on board to build relationships within the region and listen to what the community has to say,” Ms Brauer said.

“We’re committed to bringing the community along on the journey of our projects and investing to see these regions thrive.”

Mr Mitton will be based in Kerang, to support the community with answering questions and providing project updates about the Normanville Energy Park.

He said he was excited to take on the role with WestWind.

“WestWind is an exceptional organisation that I felt like I could contribute to and would be proud to work with,” he said.

“I want to be part of the solution for the sake of my kids, grandkids and the generations that follow. I love working with people, listening to what they have to say and working with stakeholders in my local community.”

WestWind welcomes suggestions and ideas from the community to support the development of the energy park.

Locals are encouraged to book an appointment to meet Mr Mitton and discuss the development of Normanville Energy Park and how to make the most of the $50,000 per annum community benefit fund once the project is operational.

“The community, especially in rural Australia is the backbone of society,” he said. “It’s so important to have a strong and informed community during major infrastructure projects like these.”

WestWind said it was committed to providing meaningful benefits back to the community while the project was in its development stage.

Ms Brauer said this was being demonstrated through Normanville Energy Park’s sponsorship program, which included sponsoring the Kerang and Wandella Football Netball Clubs, and other community groups and initiatives.
