Carpark chaos

AN elderly driver escaped injury after losing control of her Hyundai Santa Fe wagon in Kerang’s IGA carpark on Friday afternoon. The incident resulted in damage to six parked cars, luckily none of which were occupied.

Leading Senior Constable Kevin Byrne of Swan Hill Highway Patrol said the driver entered the carpark at the southern end, colliding with a parked white sedan and pushing it into a silver Holden Rodeo.

The driver then proceeded to scrape the back of a Holden Cruz.

“She’s then travelled another 35 metres to the rear of the carpark and collided with a Toyota Kluger wagon, pushing that car into a black Ford Territory which has hit a fence and a maroon Commodore,” LSC Byrne explained.

The 78-year-old driver, from the Kerang region, was attended to by Ambulance Victoria.

“The lady was checked over and released,” the police officer indicated, noting she did not need to be transported to hospital.

“Five cars were extensively damaged and towed from the scene, including the elderly lady’s. The other two cars received very minor damage and could be driven away by their respective owners.”

Police will conduct further investigations into the cause of the incident.
