A TRIO of events saw hundreds of people out and about in Quambatook over the weekend, with the annual show, the town garage sale and the Silo Cinema offering a good time for all.
The annual Quambatook Show, which opened on Friday night and ran through until Saturday, drew 400 entries this year.
There were no rides and no animals but plenty of art, craft, produce and wool was on display, organiser Annie Meadows said.
“It was everything from colouring to hand knitted items, crochet and painting,” Ms Meadows said.
“There was a lot of photography and also some great sculpture.
“It was really nice to see.”
Local groups took up the opportunity to raise funds at the show, with the Lions Club providing bacon and egg rolls on Saturday morning, the CFA making pulled pork rolls at lunchtime and Amity offering cakes and a cuppa throughout the day.
The scheduling of the town garage sale, which saw 19 sales take place around the town, to coincide with the show provided an extra activity for visitors, some of whom stayed longer in the town as a result.
The caravan park had 120 guests booked in, and some of them booked an extra night when they heard about the events on offer, Ms Meadows said.
On Saturday night the wind dropped for the Silo Cinema screening of the lawn bowls-themed comedy Crackerjack.
Around 300 people sat down to enjoy the film on what was “a beautiful, clear starry night”.
A contingent from Murrabit had come dressed for the occasion in their bowling attire.
Ms Meadows said an unforeseen highlight occurred when a rare train came through town during the screening and and stopped at the station.
“That was quite funny, especially given the number of trains we see here,” she said.
Overall the weekend was a great success.
“It was really great and people had a terrific time,” Ms Meadows said.
“There were lots of comments from the visitors saying how much they loved it.”
