Grey Wolf honour

EMILY Wandin, 11, has recently been awarded a milestone achievement, receiving the highest accolade for Cub Scouts – the Grey Wolf award.

As a 1st Kerang Scout Troop, Emily has earned the award for her efforts in outdoor adventure activities, including camping and hiking, as well as earning the Gold Boomerang badge and a solid range of other achievement badges.

With aspirations to become a police officer in the future, Emily said her hard work and dedication as a Cub Scout was just part of doing what she loves.

However, she said she was also very excited and proud to receive the Grey Wolf award.

“I tried really hard to get this award, and made sure I did everything I could to my best ability,” she said.

The Kerang South Primary School student said the award also reflected her self-discipline, teamwork and leadership skills, as well as her community involvement.

“I get out in the community a lot and make sure I work really hard as a Cub Scout, even in the school holidays,” she said.

“I remember speaking at Swan Hill Harmony Day and feeling nervous about talking in front of over 2000 people, especially because it was my first time ever really doing that.

“But I was pretty proud of myself afterwards.”

Chief Commissioner of Scouts Victoria, Brendan Watson, said the Grey Wolf award was only awarded to a small number of Cub Scouts.

“Only a small percentage reach this level,” he said.

“These are the top achievers among scouting’s 47 million members globally.”
