Gardens spring to life for open day

THERE was a good turnout for St Mary’s Primary School’s garden walk on Sunday.

Around 100 people bought tickets for the event, taking the opportunity to wander through some beautiful district gardens.

Five local gardens were on display – in Cohuna, Leitchville and Horfield.

Lorraine Learmonth, Geoff and Betty Thompson, Andrew Flanagan and Jess Suttcliffe, Di Tubb and Kim and Ash Hore all opened their gardens for the event.

According to visitors Corale Palmer, Jenny Vallance and Kathy Ilsley, the gardens were all lovely and different.

“They are all different styles,” Ms Vallance said.

“They’ve all got their own personalities.

“We’ve had a beautiful day,” Ms Palmer added.

“You go home enthusiastic.”

At St Mary’s, a plant stall proved popular and a light lunch was served, boosting the fundraising effort.

Organiser Brooke Brown said the day was a success and raised around $3000 for the school.

“People have said they liked the spread and really enjoyed the day,” Ms Brown said.
