Going the distance for men’s health

MURRABIT footballer and former Kerang local, Bryce Franzini, completed a 30.8 kilometre run from Bridgewater to the Allies Hotel in Bendigo on Saturday.

Franzini completed the run as part of the annual Movember fundraising event.

Movember involves men growing moustaches during the month of November to raise awareness about men’s health issues such as anxiety, prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and mental health problems.

Participants also run up to 60 kilometres during the month to raise awareness of the 60 lives lost every hour around the world to suicide.

“Some do it two kilometres at a time, but I wanted to make it a personal challenge,” Bryce said.

Older brother Jared, younger brothers Laine and Kyle, and Kyle’s girlfriend, Paige Borchard, also ran part of the way to keep Bryce company.

His father, Ian Franzini, the owner and manager of second hand car dealership, Franzini Motors, in Kerang, also supported his son.

“I even ran two and a half kilometres,” Ian said.

Bryce said he was well supported on the run.

“Pretty much the whole of the way, I had someone next to me,” he said.

There was little or no training for the event, with Bryce running 10 kilometres the first week, 20 the second week and 30 last Saturday.

So far, he has raised $820 for the worthy cause.
