KERANG Progress Association is bringing festive cheer to the town’s businesses.
Jacqui Hibbert of Kerang Progress Association said 19 businesses would each receive a unique Christmas tree as part of a community partnership program.
“What we’ve done is matched businesses with community organisations, each of which is going to make a Christmas tree which reflects their organisation,” Ms Hibbert said.
“Then they will put it in the window of the business they have been paired with.”
Ms Hibbert did most of the matching, with the exception of a couple of partnerships which came about due to existing relationships between specific businesses and organisations, such as business owners with children at a particular school.
Even a couple of vacant shops will have trees placed in them to add to the vibrancy of the town, with real estate agencies happy to jump on board.
Community organisations have been working tirelessly on their designs and some of the trees have already taken up residency at their new premises.
Those making trees have been given freedom as to how they approach the task.
“They can do whatever they want,” Ms Hibbert said, noting she has some donated plastic trees from the op shop to provide a starting point for those who want to just decorate.
However, those wishing to show a little extra creativity can start from scratch, making their tree out of the materials of their choice.
Each tree will feature information on which organisation created it.
Ms Hibbert mentioned the importance of encouraging people to get together to celebrate Christmas, particularly in the current challenging drought conditions.
