Aladdin magic shines on the stage

ABOUT 50 young dancers from Dancescape Kerang staged a production of Aladdin in Kerang last week.

The stage at Thornely Hall was awash with colourful, exotic costumes and graceful routines as the Middle Eastern-themed performance unfolded.

Dancescape director Gabriela Vehlen said the students had worked hard over recent weeks, preparing for the annual production which was performed as a Thursday matinee and Friday evening show.

The performance incorporated 25 dance routines in different genres, including jazz, tap and classical, which were choreographed by Ms Vehlen and performed to a range of popular musical numbers.

Ms Vehlen said parents assisted with helping to create the various costumes, props and backdrops.

Performers Elsie Bremner, Jasmine Bortolotto and Eleesha Colville said there had been some late nights leading up to the performance.

“We were starting at 3.30pm and going through until 8pm for two or three weeks,” Elsie said.

“It was daunting at the start but after a while I got used to it and started to enjoy it,” Jasmine added.

Among the audience were Kerang South Primary School students, Swan Hill Specialist School students and residents from Northhaven.

Bev Mills from the aged care home said she enjoyed the show.

“I thought it was wonderful,” Ms Mills said.

“It was really lovely to see the kids and their energy.”
