Crowd swells at Atkinson Park

BEAUTIFUL weather, good music, a relaxed vibe and fireworks that wowed the crowd made for a great New Year’s Eve celebration in Kerang on Tuesday.

Local and visiting kids were out in force at Atkinson Park in the early evening, taking advantage of the playground, the face painting, the jumping castle and the upbeat mood.

The crowd continued to swell, with people still arriving with rugs and chairs as local legends Endangered Species got underway on stage.

As night began to fall the park lit up with glow sticks and flashing floral leis that were on sale at the event.

There was a good selection of food on offer and the SES were on hand to assist when a minor medical incident occurred.

It was the fifth New Year’s Eve party run by the Kerang Progress Association, and organisers were very happy with the event.

So too were police, whose main duty on the night seemed to be picking the raffle winners.

Senior Sergeant Roberta Barry described the crowd in the park as “large and well behaved”.

“We had a very quiet night here in Kerang,” she said.

“Police were very happy with the way people celebrated around the town.

“Everyone was very well behaved.”
