NONDIES STILL DOMINATE

Barham-Koondrook (BK) got off to a terrible start in their match against the “rampaging” Nondies in round 13 of NDCA.

At one stage they were 7/62, but a face-saving partnership between Jaryd Wishart and Michael McConnell got them to a total they had a chance of defending.

They were about 100 short of what they would have really liked, only reaching 132.

Eighteen to Garry Lolicato, 56 to Wishart and 14 to McConnell were the only innings worthy of mention.

The BK bats couldn’t get hold of Sam O’Shea, who grabbed three wickets opening the bowling with Leighton Holmes.

Kyran Ellery was another one they couldn’t put away and his eight overs cost only 13 runs, while he claimed two wickets.

Nondies were eight down before they passed the score, in what was either an average batting effort or a decent bowling performance from Barham-Koondrook.

Rhys Bradley got 44 from 49 at the top of the list and Anthony Moorhouse with 23 was the only other notable batsman.

Wade Mathers got 18 and Sam O’Shea chimed in with 12 in the other opening spot, while Will O’Shea and Thrum both got 11 and only rate a mention because they were part of partnerships that got their side over the line.

Opening the bowling, Akurugoda took two wickets but it was Tom Guerra and Blake Watts with three wickets each, later in the innings, who had the Nondies boys a bit nervous prior to getting the job done by making 139 in a close, fighting victory.

Cohuna were in trouble early and didn’t recover in their match against Leitchville-Gunbower (LG).

They could only reach a total of 55, with Joel Woolhouse being the top scorer with 13.

Blake Gelletly (one wicket) and Jed Brereton (two) got the initial breakthrough, then Simon Tatt and James Keath came on to take three wickets each.

A run out saw them all out in the 28th over.

Leitchville-Gunbower were in a bit of trouble at 4/26, with their top order appearing over-confident, but recovered to make 5/176.

Jack Lunghusen and Kurt Brereton were once again the saviors.

For the second time against Cohuna this year, these two pulled LG out of the mire when the top order performed dismally.

Lunghusen and Brereton got 76 and 77 respectively, then the lower order had a bit of fun time with O’Shea 19 and Gelletly, 15, getting their runs off not many.

The total of 213 is probably par for LG, but was a total the top order should be very grateful for.

Kerang had a hit in their B grade match against Leitchville-Gunbower, but could manage only 79.

Alex Lloyd with 20, Denis Bacon 14 and Nick Tonkin with 21 were the only ones to get a few.

For LG, Billy Hawken with two wickets and Abel Prout three, were the multiple wicket takers.

The other wickets were shared among six other bowlers. You do the math. Alright, one of them didn’t get a wicket.

Bill Hawken with 30 and Austin Windridge opened, and the score was 53 before Hawken was dismissed.

The next wicket fell at 147.

Bailey Taylor, 46, and Josh Hawken, 33, ensured it was a big total, but it was Austin Windridge making his highest score of 84, who was the last wicket to fall in the total of 229.

The derby at West Turf saw Wandella bat first and reach a competitive total of 163.

Bott with 36, Messer 15, Henry 58 and Barnes with 28 were the best contributors.

For the Warriors, the only multiple wicket-taker was Bohden McKnight with two, but a couple of run outs would have annoyed Wandella.

The Warriors got off to a good start with Brodey Farley coming back from the A grade to score 57, opening with Jonah McKnight who got 37. Hangers made 24 then they lost four quick wickets before Leigh Hollingworth saved the day, then retired with 23.

Father, Ash McKnight, got to bat with youngest son Flynn at the end and took the total to 175.

Mason Dibsdale grabbed four wickets to be the wrecker, to almost do the job for Wandella.

Nats Henry took two wickets and Cody Shipp one.

Barham-Koondrook made a competitive total of 186 against Cohuna, with Brad Lake continuing his good form with 32.

Jade Stewart, 28, J.J. Valence, 27 and Jarvis Keogh with 23 were the main contributors.

Leigh Johnson and Scott Beattie opened the bowling with three and two wickets respectively, then Gav Hird also grabbed three, but BK were putting together some good partnerships to keep the score going.

Cohuna were 2/3 then 3/38, which was a bit if a revival but they managed to reach a competitive total of 155.

The ipad died which caused Cootey to almost panic, but the game goes on.

Peter Taylor with 57 and Scott Beattie 23 were the main contributors

Jade Stewart took three wickets and Keogh took two for BK and a good fielding performance got them over the line, with Cohuna falling 30-odd short.
