YOUNG people were the focus during Friday’s ice cream evening at Cohuna’s Anglican Church, as will be the case every Friday night for the remainder of January.

Although officially known as Cranmer the Martyr, the venue went by its more relaxed name, The Green Shed.

People enjoyed food, games and the social atmosphere.

Young attendees were provided with bolognaise sauce towards the main course, but pitched in to cook pasta and make garlic bread from scratch, finishing the meal with lavishly-topped ice cream.

But there was an opportunity to burn some of the acquired calories.

“We did a bit of dodgeball,” Reverend Sue Allen, of the Anglican Church, said.

Other, less energetic pursuits are also on hand.

“We’ve got some card games and some table games as well,” Reverend Allen said.

Although attendance was low for the first week, she was encouraged by the response of the few youngsters who turned up.

“The kids who came said it was really good. They were talking about asking their friends,” she said.

Last week’s Italian theme for main course will continue this Friday.

“The kids will be making pizza,” Reverend Allen enthused.

“We’ve got lots of toppings left over for ice cream,” she added, a sure temptation for sweet tooths to come along.

Members of other churches joined the ecumenical occasion last Friday, something that delighted Reverend Allen, once again highlighting the unity of the region’s various church denominations.

The youth sessions run from 5.30pm to 8pm Fridays for the remainder of January, at 32 Channel Street Cohuna.
