AN electrical pole was burnt and snapped at the top, with a grass fire starting below on the Kerang-Koondrook Road on Wednesday evening.
There was a storm in the area and Kerang Fire Brigade captain Ramon Steel believed the pole was most likely struck by lightning.
Firefighters quickly extinguished the grass fire, containing it to a small area.
They maintained a presence to monitor the damaged pole, hosing it when necessary.
“When Powercor confirmed power was off, we extinguished, then left,” captain Steel said.
