Gannawarra Shire Council nominations close on Tuesday

POTENTIAL Gannawarra Shire councillors were leaving it late to nominate, with only four candidates officially registering with the Victorian Electoral Commission by Monday morning.

Due to the coronavirus, there is a short nomination period this year, with the process only opening to candidates last Thursday and closing at noon on Tuesday.

In Patchell Ward, former Avoca councillor Neil Gannon, Kerang Progress Association president Kelvin Burt and Gannawarra Shire Council staff member Jane Ogden had nominated by Monday morning.

In Yarran Ward, former mayor Neville Goulding was the only official candidate.

Several more candidates are expected to nominate across the Gannawarra wards by the deadline.

Council elections around Victoria will be held by postal vote in October.
