Grassfire hits Kerang outskirts

A GRASSFIRE burnt “two or three acres” on the outskirts of Kerang on Saturday afternoon but was quickly extinguished, firefighters said.

The Kerang Fire Brigade was called to the corner of Ninth and Victoria streets, where a fire was spreading just after 4pm.

Captain Ramon Steel said it had been fanned by wind but was brought under control in around 10 minutes.

“We stopped it at the levee bank,” he said.

“If it had’ve jumped the levee bank it would’ve made things a bit more interesting.”

The fire wasn’t deemed to be suspicious, Mr Steel said.
