Murrabit continue winning ways

Murrabit 61 defeated Ultima 50

MURRABIT proved they are still the team to beat this season after defeating Ultima by 10 goals in their top-of-the-ladder clash at the weekend.

The Blues have had some injury woes of late and were missing Lauren Morrow and Erin McKean from their starting line-up, although their absences mattered little as Murrabit outworked the Roos 61-50.

Juniors Layla Morton and Alexis McKnight made their A Grade debuts, further illustrating the club’s depth of talent, with both players coming away better for the experience.

Ultima still managed to score 50 goals in the high-scoring contest, with goal shooter Ash Sanders (37 goals) having a day out for the Roos, while Emelia Shannahan (35 goals) and Grace Gillingham (26) led the way for Murrabit.

Hay 43 defeated Macorna 42

HAY made their first big statement of the season with a nail-biting one-goal victory over Macorna.

In what proved to be a closely fought contest, with no more than a goal in the scoreline for most of the day, it was the much-improved Lions who held on to defeat last year’s grand finalists 43-42.

Hay goalie Kellie Walker continued to be the stand out and was well assisted by midcourter Toni Rivett and Maddie Mannes in defence.

Macorna’s Erin Delahunty used her height and turned over several balls from Walker to give her team a chance, but in the end the Tigers ran out of time.

Asela Finch shot well and led the way for the Tigers with 29 goals. Walker finished as the game’s leading scorer with 38.

Moulamein 51 defeated Wandella 29

MOULAMEIN claimed their first win with a 22-goal win over the winless Wandella.

The Swans held control all game, winning the first quarter 11-5, before going on with the job to record a 51-29 victory and sit just outside the top four on percentage.

The Bombers rallied in the second half with the move of Eliza Perryman into goals working in their favour, while Courtney Atkins worked tirelessly in the midcourt and took out best-on-court honours for Moulamein.

While Wandella are yet to record a win this season, they are showing improvement, with the Bombers’ 29 goals their highest score from their three games so far.
