Moulamein 49 defeated Murrabit 38
Murrabit have had their depth questioned after a shock loss to Moulamein on the weekend, with the Swans recording a comfortable 49-38 win over the reigning premiers.
The Blues held a three-goal lead at quarter-time but it was to be the only time they would lead for the match, with Hannah Morton proving unstoppable for the Swans in defence as Murrabit found it hard to score.
Not even the return of Lauren Morrow could spur on the Blues to victory, with Moulamein showing that even from fifth place they are a team not to be written off this season.
Moulamein’s Meg Rooney led the way with a game-high 33 goals, while Grace Gillingham shot 25 goals for the Blues.
Hay 60 defeated Wandella 47
Hay continued their on their winning way with a hard-fought 13-goal win against Wandella at Hay on Saturday.
The Lions’ attacking combination of Toni Rivett and Kellie Walker again proved too strong to hold out, with Hay recording a 60-47 win in trying conditions.
Walker was unstoppable under the ring, shooting 52 goals for the Lions, while Wandella scored an unusually high 47 goals considering their 2024 track record, with the various goaling combinations the Bombers use each weekend beginning to pay off.
Walker and Rivett were the better players for Hay while Nikita Robinson and Emile Lancaster were standouts for Wandella.
Ultima 41 defeated Macorna 34
In what may be considered the second shock defeat for the round, Ultima took the four points from Macorna with a seven-goal win, with the Roos jumping over the Tigers into third place on the Golden Rivers A grade ladder as a result.
The defensive physicality of Lou Frost and Bianca Brasser caused the Tiger goalies to make uncharacteristic errors on which the Roos pounced in their 41-34 victory.
While Macorna outscored Ultima in the second half, their slow start cost them, with Emmalea Wishart the shining light in attack for the Tigers and Roos coach Tayla Foster the best for Ultima.
