Hay continues winning ways

Hay 49 d Moulamein 44

HAY continued to keep the pressure on top-two teams Murrabit and Ultima with a five-goal win over Moulamein at the weekend.

The tight tussle at Moulamein was just further proof that anyone could win the competition this season, with the Lions taking the four points in a hotly contested affair against the improving Swans.

Meg Jordyne-Rooney shot her highest score of the year for the Swans, shooting 34 of her team’s 44 goals, while Kellie Walker continued her dominance at the other end, shooting 39 goals for the Lions.

Hay welcomed back a familiar face in Ellen Jamieson in goals, who was a nice inclusion to the goal attack bib, while Courtney Atkins and Sam Glenn provided great midcourt drive for the Swans and kept them in the game.

Ultima 51 d Wandella 33

ULTIMA continue on their merry way, defeating Wandella by 18 goals and claiming their third win in a row.

The Roos’ first quarter gave them a handy four-goal lead that only continued to grow throughout the match, with Ultima eventually running out comfortable 51-33 winners.

Lou Frost and Bianca Brasser were again dominant and shut down any chance the Bombers had at bridging the gap.

Wandella welcomed back Zoe Gray to their line-up, with Gray exceptional in defence and giving the Bombers hope that their first win may not be far away, with Wandella’s ability to keep pace with Ultima in the final quarter showing that they are on the right path.

Murrabit 62 d Macorna 32

AN injury-ravaged Macorna proved no match for Murrabit, with the reigning premiers defeating the Tigers by 30 goals in a rematch of last year’s grand final.

The Tigers were without Erin Delahunty, Emmalea Wishart and Kelly Rayson, leaving them light on in most areas of the court.

Murrabit capitalised in a huge first term, scoring 17 goals to the Tigers’ three.

Emelia Shannahan was outstanding for the Blues, scoring 29 goals, and was ably assisted by the midcourt work of Lauren Morrow and Steph Reeves.

Asela Finch and April Wishart, two of Macorna’s regular players, stood up for their team in a very tough game for the Tigers, who eventually went down 62-32.

In a major warning to their competition, Murrabit will only get stronger over the coming weeks and have added best-on-court premiership player Montana Keating to their playing list for the remainder of the season.
