THE Golden Rivers Football Netball League celebrated Pride Round at the weekend by creating safe environments within the LGBTQIA+ community, with clubs seen donning rainbow-coloured uniforms, bibs and ribbons to show that everyone is welcome on the netball courts.
There were no surprises in the weekend’s A Grade netball games, with the top four beginning to take shape at the halfway mark of the home-and-away season.
Murrabit 51 d Ultima 27
ULTIMA challenged the reigning premiers, but it was only for a quarter, as Murrabit continue to show their dominance over the Golden Rivers competition with a 24-goal win.
The dynamic goaling combination of Grace Gillingham (27 goals) and Emelia Shannahan (24 goals) again worked tirelessly to score for the Blues, who recorded a dominant 51-27 win against the best defensive combination in the league in Ultima’s Bianca Brasser and Lou Frost.
The loss for the Roos dropped them to third place, while the Blues remain on top of the ladder, a game clear of second-placed Hay.
Moulamein 57 d Wandella 23
A 34-goal win for Moulamein over Wandella moved the Swans back into the top four at Macorna’s expense.
Meg Jordyne Rooney scored a season-high 44 goals for Moulamein, with Maddy Gleeson providing strong support with 13 goals of her own in the 57-23 thrashing of the Bombers.
Wandella unfortunately scored their lowest score of the season with just 23 goals, with the aim for the rest of their season now to develop some of the club’s younger players after the A Grade debut of junior Coco Crellin at the weekend.
Hay 56 d Macorna 47
HAY have climbed into second on the ladder while Macorna have fallen from the top four following the Lions’ nine-goal win.
The Lions are building every week and continue to grow as a team, with the feed to star goal shooter Kellie Walker becoming more powerful as the season goes on.
Walker shot 44 goals in the 56-47 victory and is the Golden Rivers leading goal scorer, while Macorna’s Asela Finch (30 goals) was again good for her team, with the Tigers failing to convert turnovers.
Maddie Mannes was a strong contributor in the midcourt for the Lions, while Macorna’s Jodie Jobling was a welcome addition to the Tigers’ A Grade side.
