Second-placed Roos jump over Lions

Ultima 45 defeated Hay 40

ULTIMA have moved to second place on the Golden Rivers ladder after defeating Hay by five goals, with the Lions without star goaler Kellie Walker.

Ultima’s defenders Bianca Brasser and Lou Frost proved too strong for Walker’s replacement Ellie Jamieson, with the Roos getting the jump on the Lions in the first quarter and opening up a nine-goal lead by the first break, before Hay fought back in the second half.

The gap would prove too great for the Lions to bridge, however, Ultima going on to record a 45-40 win and leapfrog Hay into the all-important second spot on the Golden Rivers ladder.

Moulamein 52 defeated Macorna 28

MOULAMEIN have retained fourth spot on the Golden Rivers A grade ladder after defeating fifth-placed Macorna by 24 goals on Saturday.

The Swans introduced Jorja McDonald from the Mallee Eagles to their goal-shooting circle, with the new recruit instrumental in the Swans’ 52-28 win.

Moulamein has now moved a game clear of the Tigers in the battle for fourth spot.

Meg-Jordyne Rooney had a renewed spring in her step and confidence in McDonald and the two of them dominated, with last year’s grand finalists now facing a tough road back into the finals race over the second half of the season.

Murrabit 72 defeated Wandella 29

THERE were to be no upsets as the reigning premiers made light work of the winless Wandella at the weekend, with Murrabit recording a comfortable 43-goal win.

After a huge 17-7 first term it was hard for the Bombers to fight back, with Wandella having a new-look team every week and, as a result, struggling to find any consistency.

The Blues on the other hand played a strong, set seven players and again dominated, with the final score of 72-29 extending their advantage at the top of the ladder.

Murrabit coach Elly Bookham was in the best players for the day, while the returns of ex-league best-and-fairest Kalinda Stanton and young-gun Montannah Keating to Murrabit’s B grade sent alarm bells across the Golden Rivers with one wondering if the reigning premiers will change up their winning formula.
