MURRABIT continue to lead the way at the top of the Golden Rivers A Grade netball ladder after recording a 14-goal win over Moulamein at the weekend.
Showing poise and consistency, the Blues didn’t change their on-court positions once throughout the match, demonstrating their confidence in their abilities.
Moulamein have added Jorja McDonald to their goal-shooting circle, with the new recruit shooting a team-high 23 goals, while Grace Gillingham (27 goals) and Emelia Shannahan (26 goals) led the way for the reigning premiers.
The Swans remain in the top four but must defeat someone above them on the ladder if they are to go deep into finals this season, while the Blues show no signs of being pressured and with their further depth being added to their B Grade are now clear premiership favourites in their quest for back-to-back to back titles.
Ultima 39 d Macorna 34
ULTIMA had to work hard to pry the win out of Macorna’s hands at the weekend, with the Roos eventually overcoming last year’s runners-up by five goals.
The Tigers held the lead at every break except the one when it mattered the most, with an 11-goal-to-four last quarter turning the match in their favour and giving them a 39-34 win.
It was a disappointing finish for the Tigers, who desperately needed the win to push Moulamein for fourth spot after losing to the Swans seven days prior.
Emmalea Wishart was phenomenal for Macorna, shooting with accuracy and working hard all over the court, while Ultima’s formidable coach Tayla Foster demonstrated calm and discipline in the midcourt, urging her team to keep on pushing their opponents.
Jacklyn Burge was instrumental for the Roos and proved to be a difficult player to beat to be one of Ultima’s best for the afternoon.
Hay 47 d Wandella 34
HAY bounced back from last week’s loss to Ultima to record a 13-goal win over a struggling Wandella in wet conditions.
The Bombers remain winless in 2024 as their goalie woes continue, with the third-placed Lions running out 47-34 winners to keep pace with second-placed Ultima.
Hay’s Ellen Jamieson was back to her best, shooting a season-high 37 goals as a strong stand-in for Kellie Walker, while Eboni Greenhill for Wandella was strong in defence.
Wandella will be hoping for their first win against Macorna in the league’s annual Indigenous Round, where the two teams will be vying to win the Barapa Barapa cup, while Hay will play reigning premiers and ladder leaders Murrabit.
