Lions hang tough as Swans swoop

IN terrible windy conditions for netball across the round, Hay have held on by one goal to defeat a gallant Moulamein.

The Swans were chasing victory to cement their spot in the top four and put in a monster effort, but ultimately fell just short, going down 38-37 at the final whistle.

Hay young gun Sophie Tapper shot 24 goals for her team, while Moulamein’s mid-season recruit Jorja McDonald was the main goal scorer for the Swans with 19.

Hay remain in third place and will be hanging for their recruits Kellie Walker and Toni Rivett to return, with the Swans continuing to hold onto fourth spot by percentage ahead of Macorna.


Murrabit 31 d Macorna 15

THE winds were blowing hard across the Macorna plains and caused havoc on goalscoring, with the reigning premiers securing a 16-goal win in another rematch of last year’s grand final.

It was a day where the defence dominated, with plenty of rebounds from both teams keeping the scoring low in the 31-15 result.

Macorna’s Erin Delahunty kept Murrabit shooter Grace Gillingham to her lowest score of the season with 14 goals, but Macorna’s attack end also failed to fire, struggling to shoot goals when it mattered.

Steph Reeves for the Blues was pivotal to her team’s attacking end and Emelia Shannahan once again proved her worth to Murrabit’s team with a game-high 17 goals, with the Blues remaining on top of the ladder.


Ultima 41 d Wandella 25

ULTIMA’S Ash Sanders shot the most goals of any player for the round, banking 30 of the Roos’ 41 goals in her team’s 16-goal win over Wandella.

The Bombers defence had little chance to have an impact, with Sanders’ accuracy making a mockery of the windy conditions in the 41-25 win.

Eliza Perryman was again among Wandella’s better players in attack, with coach Trishelle Robinson again forced into the goaling circle, with the Bombers needing to give her a consistent run in there if they are to claim their first win this season.

Ultima remain in second spot and in the box seat to claim the double chance for an upcoming finals series that promises to be one of the closest in recent memory.
