Ultima ahead in fight for second

Ultima 55 d Macorna 46

ULTIMA will go into the final round of the home-and-away season favourites to claim the double chance after defeating a determined Macorna by nine goals at the weekend.

The 55-46 win keeps the Roos’ noses in front of Hay in their fight for second spot, with Hay now needing to beat reigning premiers Murrabit and make up seven per cent to overtake Ultima.

It also meant the end of Macorna’s push for a finals berth, with the Tigers four points and 14 per cent behind fourth placed Moulamein with just one round remaining, requiring a defeat of Wandella by at least 90 goals to make up the difference to catch the Swans on the ladder.

A 16-11 second quarter proved telling in the final result, with Ultima’s Ash Sanders leading the way with 36 goals for the winners.

Emmalea Wishart (27 goals) and Asela Finch (19 goals) battled tirelessly for the Tigers.

Murrabit 53 d Moulamein 43

A 28-goal performance from stand-in goal shooter Lauren Morrow has helped Murrabit record a 10-goal win over Moulamein.

The Blues were without regular goal shooter Grace Gillingham, although it mattered little, as the reigning premiers showed their flexibility and depth within their squad in the 53-43 win.

The Swans were far from outclassed in what proved a competitive encounter, with Meg-Jordyne Rooney posting 30 goals for Moulamein to be the leading scorer for the afternoon.

The Swans will host second placed Ultima in their final home and away match of the season, while Murrabit will travel to Hay to face the Lions in a top three clash between the two leading contenders.

Hay 67 d Wandella 36

WANDELLA’S season to forget continued, with the Bombers proving no match for Hay in their final home match of the year with a 31-goal loss.

The Lions led from start to finish, with the visitors opening a seven-goal lead at quarter-time.

It didn’t get much better for Wandella, who were outscored 18 to eight in the second term, with the Lions going on with the job after half-time to register a 67-36 victory – their 10th of the season.

Kellie Walker was again unstoppable in Hay’s attacking third, shooting 57 of her team’s 67 goals, while Trishelle Martin led the scoring for the Bombers with 15 goals.
