Ambos still here for us

AMBULANCE Victoria has reassured flood-affected communities it continues to provide care, with multi-agency support.

A spokesperson said additional paramedics had been temporarily relocated from Melbourne to the Swan Hill and Mildura areas to support the community during any potential flooding events.

“Despite the challenging circumstances, Ambulance Victoria continues to provide life-saving care to regions affected by flooding,” the spokesperson told The Guardian.

“The existing air ambulance helicopter based in Bendigo remains available to help respond to or relocate patients, if they cannot be accessed by road.”

The spokesperson said “given this challenging and dynamic situation”, the service continued to work with partner agencies and the incident and regional control centres to keep informed of current weather conditions.

“This will ensure we can continue to manage any increased demand caused by flooding, while prioritising care for the sickest Victorians,” they said.

“When road access is safe and available, road ambulances will respond to patients.

“If we cannot access patients by road due to flooding, we work to provide our service in other ways – for example, secondary triage or alternative services for less urgent cases, air ambulance helicopters, or via a multi-agency rescue.
