Healthy outlook for services

FAMILIES from across the Koondrook district who access Gannawarra Shire Council’s maternal and child health services have begun to benefit from a new location.

Maternal and Child Health services is now at Koondrook Primary School, adjacent to Punt Road, after moving from Barook Senior Citizens Centre.

Gannawarra Shire Council chief executive Geoff Rollinson said the new site provides a dedicated facility for families and staff to work together for their family’s health.

“Council’s Maternal and Child Health services play a key role in the development of our youngest residents, with staff providing support, information and health promotion for families,” he said.

“Relocating these consultations from the Barook Senior Citizens Centre to the Koondrook Kindergarten site provides staff and families a dedicated space where families can discuss their child’s health, growth and development, leading to greater collaboration between families and staff.”

The new space is one of three locations in the Gannawarra Shire Council to hold maternal and child health appointments, with Gannawarra Shire Children’s Centre in Kerang holding sessions on weekdays, and Cohuna’s maternal and child health centre taking bookings by appointment.

Mr Rollinson said that Koondrook’s new facility brings the services to a similar setting as the other children’s health centres.

“Having the capacity to house Maternal and Child Health appointments in the same location as early education programs, such as three-year-old and four-year-old kindergarten sessions, means our Koondrook site provides similar arrangements as families who visit services at Cohuna and Kerang,” he said.

Koondrook’s maternal and child health sessions are held on the first and third Wednesday of the month.
