AT the Kerang Progress Association meeting on May 22 a letter, written anonymously to president Angela Teasdale, was presented to the meeting.
Sadly, it cannot be responded to personally, so it was moved that a letter of explanation to the issues raised be placed in the Gannawarra Times.
We thank the writer for their support towards our fundraising as we also appreciate the local community’s support.
We hope that the writer has attended our new year celebrations in the park and saw the enjoyment brought to both young and older community members from near and far.
The fundraising for this event is fully appreciated by the committee, and allows a free evening of entertainment.
With regard to the mention in the May 7 article of the Kerang Refugees Group being funded by Progress is incorrect. The paper mentioned this incorrectly and placed a clarification in the Gannawarra Times (May 21, Page 8).
The Progress Association has never, and will never, be supporting this group and any other group with fundraising as it is not in our charter.
The writer also made remarks towards our plan to hold a Lunar Festival in March 2025.
The remarks were very derogative and this made members of our organisation feel saddened.
We believe we are a very diverse community. This new event will allow all different nationalities to get together and share their culture with our community.
Lunar is a Latin word for moon, covers all Asian communities and is celebrated in many western countries enjoying the diverse cultures at their festivals.
Kerang does need to have some unique events and the Progress Association believes this is one we fully support.
To speak of Chinese threats to Australia being the writer’s reason to suggest that the Progress Association should not stage this festival is very sad.
The Kerang Traders have an Easter celebration and we feel this is a great asset to the town. Progress Association members, as well as the community, support this event.
Kerang Progress Association is always open to suggestions for the betterment of the town and wider community, and encourage the public to attend our meetings and share any ideas with us.
