Sandbags help save family’s home – Oct 1, 1993

THE Wilkinson family appears to have escaped any major flood damage at their Weir road property.

Situated near the junction of the Loddon River and the Pyramid Creek, the family’s property was in grave danger of being submerged in flood waters earlier this week as the level of the Pyramid Creek was heightened by water backing up from the swollen Loddon River.

A family friend, Mr Alan Finch said the only water to encroach onto the property was seepage water from built-up levees and extra sandbags that had been added to them.

A side-cut constructed to relieve seepage water one end of the property had directed water to channel where it was pumped back into the Pyramid Creek.

Mr Finch said there were small patches of seepage water at various parts of the property, with the area significantly affected being the chook house where about 10 cm of water had forced the house feathered residents to a higher perch.

He said the water level in the creek had risen significantly, rising 15 cm in less than two days from Saturday.
