THE Kerang Cemetery Trust recently presented retiring trust member Ross George with a certification of appreciation from the Department of Health, thanking him for his 15-year service.
The presentation took place at the cemetery, where chairperson Trevor Wilkinson thanked Mr George for his dedicated service over 15 years.
“Ross is to be commended for his commitment and contribution during this time,” Mr Wilkinson said.
“He was a regular attendee at our quarterly meetings and annual cemetery walks and is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to the irrigation system in place at the cemetery.”
Mr George was involved in various projects during this time, including the planning and implementation of a new area, which included the new niche wall and the irrigation system.
He also held the position of vice chairperson over many years.
“I was somewhat surprised to learn that I was getting recognition by the Department of Health for the 15 years I have been on the cemetery trust,” Mr George said.
“First thoughts were for those who had served before me for a much longer period and contributed much more than me.
“However, the trust is a tight-knit community group that works independently and has achieved many improvements, especially in the past five years. I will remember my time with the trust with fond memories.”
Meanwhile, the cemetery trust recently held its annual general meeting, where Trevor Wilkinson accepted the role of chairperson from Michael Hastie, who served in the role for three years, with Leigh Hollingworth taking on the role of vice chairperson.
The trust is continuing to develop the new area and during the year received funding from the Department of Health to purchase a new tractor, trailer and grave-safe device which has enabled them to keep up to date with OH&S regulations.
The trust also received funding from the Kerang Sporties’ community grants and the Bus Stop Opportunity Shop, with funds going toward their Indigenous garden area including three newly-installed flag poles.
A defibrillator was also purchased with funding received from the Gannawarra Shire Council. Over the next 12 months, the roses along the front fence will also be renewed.
