Ex-local lad Brad Maclean isn’t doing a lot of stand-up comedy lately, although he can still be seen on YouTube. Brad is living way up north and is usually assisted by good mate and another former local in Dave Henderson, “the cat whisperer”. Brad now spends the majority of his time fishing.

Speaking of Dave “Moose” Henderson, I have found out that a couple of years ago he moved to Mt Isa and bought himself a fully gas-operated car. Turns out that there was no station in Mt Isa where he could fill up. No-one had gas.

Not Moose’s finest hour, but he is always looking to save the environment.

Spotted driving Robbo’s Mobile Windscreens ute the other day was Robbo’s lovely wife Wendy.

The obvious assumption is that Robbo is getting Wendy to go out on site and do a windscreen or two. Good on you Wendy.

There were a few more people on the roads last week as the restrictions have been eased a bit.

Those out and about would have noticed some pretty good looking crops on their travels.

With there being no football this season, I was just wondering if anyone had seen Horace Pay? He usually only comes out during footy season. The rest of the time he’s flat out at the farm. Bet he missed the game, but he would have been too busy anyway.

Doing the rounds last week I happened to see Billy Hollard doing not a lot at Matesy’s in Koondrook. He was keen to talk cricket. Turns out he started playing at about 12 years old, against some of the greats from the Barham/Koondrook competition.

Playing a bit of the old Nethercote Shield, Billy often opened the innings and believes that Lindsay Hein was probably the fastest he faced, although there were a couple from Cohuna who were also pretty quick. The name Peace comes to mind.

Driving around out the front of Tunna Roberts’ place and there was a lounge suite with a sign that said Free on it. Wonder what happened to the other two.

Bowling enthusiasts can play social bowls at the Kerang Bowling Club as they are opening on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday evenings, 5 to 8pm. There is no competition, but two people can turn up, pay $5 each to play and grab refreshments. Inside the club can cater for 10 people in each area and the bar will be open.

One or two places around town are back to full-time working hours now that Covid restrictions have eased a bit. Others have remained at restricted hours, happy to use JobKeeper as the wage supplement. I’m sure all businesses would be wondering how things will be once we are back to normal. We will get there, the only question is when.

My horticultural spy tells me the Jasmine is flowering. They say it’s very good for depression. No, it doesn’t give you depression. The smell wards against it.

With the AFL footy finals under way, there are a few talking about local footy for 2021.

Apparently there are a few teams recruiting very well, while others might have a few leaving. Kerang have done well with an A grader or two, Cohuna got back some locals for the 2020 season, and the word is they are staying for 2021 with one or two more signed on. In the Heathcote District League, Leitchville-Gunny has apparently picked up a few.

Macorna’s coach for 2020, Jaydon Stiles, would be looking forward to the 2021 season also.

Doesn’t expecting the unexpected mean that the unexpected is actually expected?
