One former tough man who played for Cohuna Footy Club in the Northern District Football League said that the match between Cohuna Kanagas and Kerang played at Cohuna on Saturday, April 24 was the best game of footy he’d seen in over 20 years.

There’s nothing better than seeing two quality teams have a fair dinkum go at it.

There was also a report that the tucker at the footy on that day was as good as it’s ever been. Someone mentioned that the chicken fillet burger was sensational. Wonder if that person had just the one, or went back for a second helping?

The caterers for all local footy do a great job.

Dean Hayden is seen around the traps in Kerang and Barham-Koondrook a bit and is usually a pretty quiet bloke. Dean makes model trucks as a bit of a hobby, paints them up, makes a few new parts, bends a bit of pipe for exhausts, but most of all he enjoys the art aspect.

Great job, Dean, they look pretty good.

With the AFL footy season well under way, there are a few footy tipping competitions going on.

A question arises with this: Should you tip with your head or your heart?

One local footy tipping competitor, who supports North Melbourne, has been tipping with his heart.

So after round seven, North still have no wins. Add seven onto Mat Chamberlain’s score at his footy tipping, and he’d be leading the whole comp.

If he hasn’t tipped his fairly ordinary Kangaroos so far this season, then maybe he’s doing better than we give him credit for. Hope you are going with the heart Chum!

Former journalist in Kerang, and now doing a bit of editing, is birthday boy Peter Bannan. Pete turned the ripe old age of 30 on Sunday and celebrated on the weekend with a bit of a shindig in Melbourne.

Hope you had a great day, Pete. Party’s over, get back to work.

Brian (Didi) Cadusch was presented a Distinguished Service Award by the Royal Children’s Hospital in recognition for 50 years’ service, raising funds for the hospital.

Everyone in town should have at more than one stage, seen Didi walking the streets organising the Royal children’s Hospital Appeal and selling the ANZAC Day tokens.

Great job, Didi, and congratulations. Your work is admired by all.

Trevor (Freddie) Grant is often seen walking a couple of pretty skinny little dogs at various stages during the day, following his morning bus run.

Well Freddie, both the dogs look like they are built for speed and would like to get off the leash and go crazy. I think if you were to cut them loose they’d have to come back when called, because it would be a bit difficult to chase them down.

No word as yet what is happening with the local cricket for next season.

We’ve just got to have some cricket locally.

Hopefully local clubs are just waiting a while and then they can get together prior to the season starting and organise something.

Kerang co-coach Jesse had a ripping game against Cohuna in round two, getting in and under.

There were a few injuries for Kerang in this match also. What will happen now is that the club will manage these guys to perfection so that they will be ripe and ready for the finals. Coatesy is an expert at that, always giving players every opportunity to be at their best.

Mind you, they will have to get past Cohuna – or maybe they’ll meet in the big on in September. Would love to see that.

I’m at that age where my mind still thinks I’m 23, my humour suggests I’m 12, while my body mostly keeps asking if I’m sure I’m not dead yet.
