With the footy and netball season fast approaching, and most players hitting the track to sharpen their skills and fitness, I’ve been told that at the Nullawil club, Lauren Hogan is ‘training the house down’. She is guaranteed to be in for a great season.

Of course Nully will be strong once again in both footy and netball.

A couple of folks had a crack at the Exchange hot wings the other Thursday evening. One got through them with a bit of a fight, then the heat got worse after he finished. He said “I’m alright” later in the night. The second bloke got them down, but it seems they didn’t stay there.

That bloomin’ Jimmy Clark had a milestone birthday last Tuesday. Think it might have been a bit older than 50.

Hope you had a great day, Jim.

Andy Gray has been a bit crook (or is it soft?) and spent some time hospital.

He’s back on deck now and working as hard as he always has.

Saw Leigh Hollingworth riding past on the way home last week and he must be riding an e-bike. The speed he was going was incredible, or maybe it’s just that he was riding home and not going to work. Cheers, Leigh.

While having a chat with Nev Miller in Pyramid Hill last week, I noticed Noel Hercus stole by. We haven’t seen each other for many years, so I had to take the hat off for the old fellow to recognise me.

Noel was back pocket extraordinaire in a Yarrawalla FC premiership in the 70s and, being the all-round sportsman he was, also won a cricket flag way back then. Locals in Kerang know him through tennis, so, yes, the all-round sportsman. He says he’s doing ok because the pills are working. All the best, Noel.

Mrs Marg Coughlan passed away recently and this is one lady that the Kerang community will sorely miss.

Mrs Coughlan has taught thousands of locals to swim and would most likely have saved many lives in doing so.

Having been the first swim coach that local children would have had at the Kerang Amateur Swimming and Lifesaving Club ‘swimming training’ she was probably teaching the third generation from local families.

What a wonderful effort this lady has put in for the town.

Des Hein is pretty happy that the Murrabit Cricket Club is back playing in the local competition. He has been preparing the wicket for the club’s first year back playing and all pitches have been to a great standard. That’s not too bad considering the wickets haven’t been used for about 10 years.

Des and Jill have a few grandkids that are pretty interested in cricket I’m sure.

Des helped out with the umpiring during last week and would have done a wonderful job and had a great time.

The encyclopedia of education in the local district (was going to say Ita Jessop) would have to be Brenton Taylor, principal at the Kerang Primary School.

If Brenton doesn’t know it, it’s not worth knowing. His efficiency is only exceeded by his knowledge.
