Bruce Bott has sold his business and has been seen driving around the streets of Kerang, window down, giving a mouthful of cheek. Bruce would be pretty happy that he sold Barham Meats to Cam Langley. Good on you, Bruce, hope the family’s all well.

At the NDCA grand final at Murrabit a couple of weeks ago, Tom Hetherington’s brand new twins had a big day out. Grandparents Bob and Deb were more than happy looking after the little tackers who were only a few weeks old.

Bob and Deb would have had the best day, catching up with the old Murrabit crew and looking after the youngsters – well Deb was anyway.

Many former locals came back for a bit of a weekend to watch the Murrabit seniors and their junior team win premierships. At the juniors the week before, Buck and Brenda Davies were spotted watching the kids and last week a lot of the senior players would have been coached by Buck back in the day.

Janine Millard was watching her son and team captain Tim, win the senior flag and was seen talking with old mate Daryl Bray. Janine and Daryl were the brains-trust for a very successful period of the Murrabit Football Club as secretary and president I believe. Ah, the glory days!

While speaking of the cricket grand final, it must be mentioned that while the pressure was on towards the middle of the Barham innings, former local cricketer Brad Hein pulled up with his boys at long off for a bit of a look.

The problem was that the batsman thought he’d parked a bit close to being behind the bowler’s arm, so asked if he could please move the white vehicle a bit.

Neil Teasdale’s comment, “Don’t you know anything about cricket”, got a bit of a laugh.

The Kerang Cricket Club was well-represented at the NDCA grand final with a few team members turning up to give the finalists some curry from their own little coaches box.

It seems that Murrabit’s Simon Kelly is a popular player with the Kerang lads and he received some rousing support, especially once he was given the ball for a bowl.

It’s great to see the friendly banter exchanged between teams.

Of course the Kerang lads had to turn up because Kerang’s captain, Ron Bright Jnr won a couple of the awards for the T20 Blast held earlier in the year including batting. Alex Lloyd also won the dismissals for a keeper.

Well done, lads.

Noel Hercus was mentioned in last week’s Komment, and Noel’s old friend, Howard McClelland, has pointed out that Noel and he played cricket together in the Pyramid Hill Under 16 Country Week teams back in mid-last century.

Aldo says that Noel fielded behind the stumps as the team’s “backstop”.

The Kerang Golf Bowling Club’s Division 3 team went down in the preliminary final by one measly shot to Barham.

Fonzy’s team did ok winning by three, Noel Robby’s team and Judy McKerrow’s team both lost by two.

That is an obvious indication that Fonzy’s training regime is much better than that of Noel and Judy.
