Komment by Kurl – April 26

After having a bit of a spell, it’s back to the grind.

The rain that the district has had the other week was obviously pretty good. No reason not to like it, although Kurl was up north and missed it all.

There’s nothing quite like a decent drenching when it is needed.

The Cohuna Kangas had a come-from-behind victory over Woorinen on Good Friday that obviously pleased coach Bradley no end. Bricky was happy with the players’ belief and will look forward to more challenges throughout the year.

There has been a lot of talk about umpires, the stand rule and the way it’s being umpired. Should the blame go to the umpires or the instructions that they receive? We must keep in mind that the umpires are being told how to interpret rules, so it’s a bit tough to blast them.

Many say that we wouldn’t have a game without them. I don’t believe that. If the umpires’ association didn’t supply umpires, then someone from the club would do it and this seems to be happening a bit anyway.

Keep in mind that we initially play the game for fun, and once that game is established, it’s then that we get that little bit more competitive (did he say ‘little bit’).

Also, coaches will do everything in their power to push any rule as far as it can go.

Still love the game though.

The local Easter events al went off with a bang. The Kerang, Cohuna and Murrabit tennis tournaments were all successful and the Quamby Tractor Pull was welcomed back after three years absence.

On a personal note, this is the first Tractor Pull event that old mate Norma Bennett hasn’t been involved. I’m sure the committee and Quambatook locals will ensure that Norma’s legacy is carried on as she was a wonderful worker for local events.

While mentioning the local tennis, it was noticed on fakebook that the Crellin family had a pretty good event at the Kerang tournament, with all members of the family involved in some way. The only thing was it was noticed that Daughter Coco was wearing some weird shorts in her event with her dad. Gutsy effort Coco, and well done to all.

Crello informs me that he had said if he and Coco didn’t win, she had to wear the shorts on her head. Coco wouldn’t have been game to lose. Rather than question her courage to lose the match and wear the shorts on her head, I would have thought she showed extreme courage to wear them at all. (They had pictures of her dad on them).

So, with the change of season upon us, you can be guaranteed that there will be a day or two when you pick the wrong clothes. Should have gone with the jeans and not the shorts. It has always been good to wear shorts to the first round of footy though.

You don’t realise how old you are until you sit on the floor and then try to get back up.
