What’s Kurl seen and who has he spoken to this week?

Caught up with Smiley Anderson the week after Collingwood’s victory against the Blues.

Although he didn’t get to go down and watch this one, he is completely satisfied with the result.

The Pies defeating Carlton seems to be enough to satisfy most of the Pies supporters for the season.

Thing is, Smiley, they aren’t finished yet.

Colin and Helen Granter have had their caravan packed and ready to go for some time now, waiting to hook up and head off. The only problem is that Colin keeps working.

The old bloke does a bit of driving here and there and obviously enjoys his work, but Helen is ready to get going at any time.

I caught up with Stephen Arthur just before he went up north to play bowls in the Australian Open. Of course he claims he was going to be doing a bit of work while he’s up there.

Always into his sport, Rowdy is the current coach of the Kerang women’s footy and wife Karen is team manager.

Hope that they end up where you want them to, Rowdy – that’s each bowl and the footy. All the best, folks.

The Kerang Fire Brigade held their awards on Friday, June 3 at the Exchange Hotel. The awards are meant to be held every two years, but a couple of the events have been missed due to the virus.

Several 50-year service medals were presented. Congratulations to all.

The local fire brigade is a close-knit family and they would have all enjoyed the social evening.

So, following the fire brigade awards, the fire siren went off at about 4am the next morning.

The brave souls responded quickly and filled two trucks to extinguish bin fires that some ratbags had lit. I say ratbags, but that name can sometimes be a term of endearment, so scrap that and we’ll say perpetrators.

Hopefully they, or their parents, are ratepayers so they can help the rest of us pay for that.

Anyway, great work by the local fire folk.

Brian Leerson was seen out and about last week. He was getting Lee Guest to have a butcher’s hook at his car.

Brian used to do a bit of gold detecting over Wedderburn way in years gone by. Wonder if he paid Guesty with the yellow stuff?

I had to yell out to my old coach, David Laidlaw, the other day on his way to an appointment.

David was a gun footballer in his younger days, and that was before he came to the district. He coached Wandella footy back in the late 80s and was also a top cricketer and captained a couple of local teams.

Retired now, the old fella doesn’t get out much. It was great to catch up, Dave. We could have talked longer.

A warning to the folk of Cohuna. Honest Ken is looking to relocate to his home town of Cohuna.

Apparently there is a petition going around to keep him out.

Last Wednesday, Neale and Dayle Fenton were at William Creek at the Devils Marbles, about 100km south of Tennant Creek. Thinking that maybe Sparra rang just to remind me he wasn’t in the cold weather.

They both took a flight over Lake Eyre and were told that the Lake is currently 15 per cent full with 30 per cent of the lake area covered.

Sparra said that the current price of fuel there is $2.99.9. He sent me a photo of the bowser and it is actually $2.90. They might check the Komment online, so safe travels you two.
