Kurl’s sights and chats in the district

Suzette, Russell and the team at Every Stitch Counts are really enjoying their new digs at 54 Victoria Street, Kerang. They have the shop looking great, with the workwear on display and the embroidery in the back as well as the quilting stuff and sewing supplies.

Great work, folks.

David “Rat” Conlan must be the busiest man in Kerang. Not only does he put in the hours at JD Campbell Consulting, but he also does a bit down at the Kerang Footy Club, and also has a meeting a bit after 5pm each day with clients.

Hope you continue to get a quorum at those meetings, Dave.

Alex Salter and Jack Whitehead must have been cold as they were both sitting in the car rather than their usual spot on the street. Getting soft you old blokes.

Last Wednesday Jack was concerned about the “unknown” players named in some local teams that have been kicking goals. This happens when a player has their profile turned to ‘private’ on the playhq website.

Gary McCluskey and Peter O’Brien were also seen in the main street having a bite to eat and a bit of a chat.

Something must have been wrong because Peter wasn’t talking fishing. Reckon the subject would have worked that way though eventually.

Peter Moore is having a run with Quamby this year and obviously still loves his footy. Pete is a former Wandella player who has played in a flag or two with the Bombers. He’d be a pretty handy pick-up for the Quamby Saints.

Speaking of former Wandella premiership players, there were three of them playing in a HDFL match on Saturday. Jay McDonald, Tyler Miles and Pete’s brother, Cameron Moore, would have played together in one or two premierships at Bomberland. Cam lined up for Mount Pleasant and the other two for Huntly, who copped a floggin’.

An office lady in Kerang was cursing being sent some junk mail, but noticed this mail referred to a wine bottling company in her home town.

Rather than delete it she opened the email and had a quick read. Lo and behold, it informed her of a place she never knew about which bottles heaps of wine.

Lesson: Maybe don’t delete all junk mail.

Watching the final State of Origin match played last Wednesday night (what a great game it was) and I found that I was supporting Queensland. This got me wondering who the Barham and Koondrook folk supported.

After a few phone calls to some local Koondrook and Barham legends, it seems that they are a mixed lot. One Koondrook bloke barracks for NSW and one Barham bloke barracks for Queensland.

One who played footy for Koondrook, used to live there, then worked in Sydney for a while and came back to live in Barham said he would probably support NSW, although this sounded a bit unconvincing.

So really, there isn’t any loyal state allegiance, just total commitment to local footy – go Raiders.

By the way, another one of these blokes said he’d never watched a game of rugby in his life, and never will. He’s won about 30 club best and fairests and a league one also.
