It’s been a while

Since the last Komment, the author has a new hip – faster, stronger, better. Rabbit, Chookeyes and Emu all have new knees and will be up and about and better for the time, and Nola has had her new knee adjusted for more speed and comfort.

Hope that all are doing well.

Kerang and Nullawil both had good wins in the local footy competitions. Nully won in a canter and the Blues claimed victory in a close match.

Just a thought, but Kurl would have loved to see Kerang and Cohuna play their grand final at the Barham oval. That might be a bit controversial but it would have been a great spectacle for the ‘southern’ teams of the competition.

Carlton had a win with Cripps nabbing the Brownlow, but were knocked out of the finals by a point against Collingwood. Although they would have loved a crack at finals, they deserved to finish where they did, while the Pies probably went further than most expected.

Geelong’s oldest team were too good against the Swans in the end.

Buddy has signed on for another year, but didn’t have the best match in the grand final.

A few of Geelong’s older players have re-signed. Don’t think any of them will be playing in the twos?

We old folk can say that being ‘too old’ creeps up on you very unexpectedly, but they’ve been so good it may be worth another year for them all.

The league’s best recruiter, Stephen Wells, will have replacements in the wing already.

The great Quambatook Footy Club have played their final match and shut up shop.

What a wonderful effort the Saints have put in over their final couple of years to keep a team on the ground.

While mentioning Quambatook, Kurl caught up with former champion Quamby player John Holt a few weeks ago. Holty was a tall centre half forward who played in the ’84 KDFL flag. The old bloke still looks fit enough to be running around too. Good on you Holty, could have chatted for ages.

I imagine that would be a great reunion to attend. Coach Emu, Charlie Meadows, Peter Head, Tangles Jewson, Dooley. Yep, a chinwag over a quiet cuppa would be most civilised.

The Kerang Whiskey Club are still to have their inaugural meeting. Originally prevented from getting together due to some bloomin’ virus, now there are no excuses lads.

Ginny has been busy golfing and dancing, Tim probably has no excuse other than to be waiting for a date to be set, Dale is always busy and yours truly needs to get up and about. All four members enjoy a quiet tipple and need to discuss any decent dram.

And the poor Gunny Cup organisers will have some good luck in the not too distant future. As each day passes we get closer to the day they will hold their magnificent meeting.

When it does happen, the Gunny Cup is a great event. All the best to the Gunbower Racing Club.

Thanks for those who have stated that they miss the weekly Komment.

Thanks for the message from Marion; and Alex out Murrabit way enjoys the read also.

So while Kurl has been out of action, Jenna and Steve have filled in doing everything apart from the Komment. Thanks guys, your efficiency is only exceeded by your enthusiasm.
