This week’s Komment from Kurl

It’s great to see Anthony Robertson get up and lead the Kerang FC in their club song at their presentation night. You can tell he’s done it a few times before, reminiscent of Cab Calloway.

Love the enthusiasm, Robbo.

***

Peter Morris and lovely wife Meg were in town early last week. Usually, Pete visits Kerang for a party or similar and it can become a bit hectic.

The recent visit was a quiet social visit.

***

The silly season has started both locally and in the AFL with player trades on the table. Clubs have been signing players for a commitment for the 2023 season. Seems that a lot of players desire to end up at Geelong – why not?

My team Carlton (sshh) need more than one or two and St Kilda need more than that.

Kerang may lose a couple, but are always on top of the recruiting and always seem to get not only top footballers, but top blokes too.

***

Speaking of St Kilda, I wonder how former Kerang District Health president Simon Hall is travelling? He loves the Saints but, like quite a few of us, his club doesn’t get the results required.

Every game our teams play Simon, they are closer to their next flag.

***

It is refreshing to note that the young kid who made his initial first-class century against NSW for WA, Teague Wyllie, said that he didn’t celebrate because the job wasn’t done.

Take the helmet off, acknowledge the crowd but don’t carry on like you’ve inherited the world.

***

Cooper Condelly has done all the courses and has been a paramedic for a while. Now he has finally nabbed himself a job as a paramedic in North Melbourne.

He also found a pretty nice house to call home that just happens to be in Toorak. Things are coming together Coop, nice.

***

A couple of SES crews were out and about late last week following a bit of the damp stuff. At about 100mm by Thursday afternoon (more in some places), it was likely they would get a few more calls.

Cohuna also copped heaps and the streets were flowing. Hope everyone has protected their homes and no damage was caused. That may be wishful thinking and written after the horse has bolted, but our best wishes go to all who have had troubles.

***

Speaking of Cohuna, I haven’t had a chance to catch up with old mate Trev Treacy in quite a while.

Trev will be looking forward to cricket season starting, which, due to the weather, could be quite a while away.

Wife Trish is happy to see the old bloke get out of the house too. Hope you guys are doing well.

***

Things over Cohuna way will have settled down a bit following their disappointing loss in the grand final. With a new coach in Tyson Findlay appointed already (is that right?), they will be looking forward to another great year in 2023.

***

It was noticed that Ryan Barnes is still bowling with his hat on. He does it at training so why not? Ryan most likely bowled with the tide on Saturday. No truth to the rumour that Ryan, Dicko and Muz are playing for RSL in the Swan Hill comp.
