So, a lot of the footy recruiting has been going on all over the state.
Kerang have already made a pretty decent signing with a gun from the Flat.
Former Kerang coach Trav Matheson, now in charge of Eaglehawk, has been able to snaffle former St Kilda captain Jarryn Geary. Geary is returning to his original home club and should be a big onus for the two blue hawkers.

The flood waters aren’t getting away quickly enough and many outside the town are suffering in a big way.
Meant to be a bit of trouble last Friday at the Koondrook school, but all was OK as it was just an organisation realising that the levee wasn’t in the best condition. Think that might have caused a bit of panic.
Local community spirit has helped many and everyone would like to be able to help those that are outside the main levees.
There will still be lots of clean-up to do, which will be a great opportunity for that local community spirit to shine through again.

While over in the border town the other day, (Yes, you can still get there via Myall, which is still open), I noticed there were quite a few sandbags along Murray Parade.
What I couldn’t work out, was why weren’t they stacked on top of the bank that was already there? That would have saved at least half the number of sandbags. I assume someone was told where to put the bags – but geez.

It’s is also interesting to note how many times the water has peaked. It seems as if those on television want to be ‘first’ to say it’s peaked. In Kerang, the levels are up and down like a toilet seat at a laxette eating contest.
We can only hope that no more banks are breached in the district.

“Fakebook” has given many a pretty good coverage of the floods and posts with drone footage gives an excellent insight into where the floodwaters are effecting and the woes that many will suffer and are currently suffering.

Just wondering how much it would cost to put a few pipes in the Murray Valley Highway on the Wandella Creek at Reedy Lake?
No newspaper deliveries for a week or two in some places, so getting the local rag through is important. It’s getting printed in Mildura, then delivered to Swan Hill. It then gets to Kerang via Moulamein, Barham and Myall. Then to deliver the Lake Charm papers they have to go back the same way to Swan Hill then down to Charm again.
There would surely be many other businesses that would be effected in the same way.

Talking of that type of thing, back when I was a kid, the highway on the Swan Hill side of the twin bridges had ‘big’ culverts under it to get the water away quicker. Wonder why they were filled in? Easier to make roads I suppose.

The local Northern District Cricket hasn’t fired up yet, but they shouldn’t be far away from having a hit.
There was some cricket played locally on the weekend. Wandella hosted Woorinen in the SHDCA.

While talking cricket, former captain of the Barham club, Gary Lolicato, is doing a bit of coaching at the Barham Golf Club and brother Wazza is likely to hit the little white ball around also. Reckon that Waz would probably outdrive most.

Editor Peter Bannan was in the district for a while doing a great job covering the floods. Gone back home now for a rest.
It’s still all happening, Pete. Lot of work to do still. Just sayin’.
