Kelly back in Kerang

FORMER local lad Andrew Kelly was seen roaming the streets of Kerang last Wednesday.

Andrew and his lovely family reside up north in McKay and they were home visiting mum, who had just turned 90.

Congratulations Mrs Kelly, all the very best. Wonderful that young Kel could drop in for a visit, but also pretty good to have a couple of your lovely family still pretty close.


GLEMARM residents Dolcie Smale and Dephne Napier were out and about at Chino’s last week, having a pleasant cuppa in the outdoor area. Blending in beautifully with the lovely pair were carers Karyl Hewitt and Pam Walsh.

It’s wonderful that these folk can do a bit of socialising in the town’s main street.

Hope all four had a great day and made it back home safely. The question should be asked who was looking after who. To Dolcie and Daphne, I hope those other two were behaving themselves and you guided them home safely.


SO the road between Swan Hill and Kerang is finally open. Woohoo.

A bit of pressure from local member Peter Walsh ensured that something was done, with a levee being strategically placed, then water pumped back over the levee so it would flow under the bridge into Reedy.

I must admit that I imagined they would pump the water back over the levee, only to see it flow back across the road the other way (Don’t be ridiculous, Kurl).


SO the township of Kerang is safe and we can travel to most places, albeit via a longer route in some cases.

But it still must be remembered that many in outer lying areas are still suffering in a major way.

Murrabit and Benjeroop are going to have a lot of water around for quite a while. All the best to folks in those areas, and don’t be afraid to ask for help.


COHUNA seems to be OK although the road between the two towns has been impassable for quite a while.

Koondrook has had a bit of trouble and at one stage an emergency was called that wasn’t. Bit of trouble in the forest but that sandbagging has done the job.

So yeah, it’s still all happening and with water across the quite a few roads in the district.


PETER Steel and family are out on the Calivil Creek on the way to Koondrook.

The family kindly took mum, Mrs Thelma Steel, out for a look at the floods last week. Bravely donning waders, Thelma was carefully guided through the floodwaters to have a look at what was going on.

At one stage she was told by her grandsons to keep moving. At this point she was well aware that the two lads were keeping her moving to avoid snakes. Of course, Thelma hates them, but who doesn’t?


DON’T forget the late night shopping tonight with the local traders in Kerang offering their wares.
