Komment by Kurl

Got a big wave from Crello the day it was bloomin’ freezing. Adrian is always willing to give a cheerful wave, but this time he was wearing shorts on the coldest Novem-

ber day in 143 years. There’s a saying about something, something no feeling, but I can’t recall it.

The old fella is looking fit as a fiddle, so we assume he is doing a pre-season for Super Rules.

There are a few roads starting to open up in the local district. Many travellers have been driving past the road-closed signs. This is up for discussion, with some totally against it, and others seeing it as a necessity.

A question does arise as one local road with water across it has a closure sign at one end and no sign at the other end. There is meant to be a fine if you drive past a closure sign, but what happens in this case? Does it depend from which end you enter? Maybe if you reversed past the sign indicating you were going the other way, you wouldn’t get fined? C’mon, work with me on this.

Gannawarra Shire would have been advocating that Regional Roads Victoria open a couple of roads way before they were actually opened.

It wouldn’t be the shire’s responsibility to make the decision, but VicRoads would most likely need some pressure from the local area.

Pretty sure that the shire will also inform Regional Roads Victoria of any potholes that require some work. There’ll be plenty.

Talking of footy, the AFL is looking at four umpires for next season. A working party will take it to the clubs.

The extra umpire is there to improve the quality of umpiring, presumably, but having a fourth different type of interpretation may only make it worse.

Back in the playing days, it was always important to “read” the way the umpire was adjudicating, then go off that for the rest of the match.

When two umpires were introduced, it became a bit more difficult. It’s got to be tough to do that with four, because no matter what anyone says, they will all interpret it that little bit differently.

Was introduced to Frank Hughes a week or so ago. Frank is trying to work out some of the characters in the Komment by Kurl. Back when the much respected Ken Cullen was doing the Corner, Frank knew everyone in the column and was in it enough himself.

It seems that Frank was panicking a bit with the water out at Charm, thinking it might get up to the house. Although his water views were increased due to the floods, he prayed for a miracle and got one – the water didn’t make the house. That makes us think he has a bit more pull than many of us.

All the best, Frank.
