Kurl out and about this week

Quite a few locals involved in horse syndicates had some success at Kerang’s Boxing Day Races.

Former locals Paul and Simon Peck and Peter Head and Bendigo lad Craig Burns all had a good day out and I’m sure would have celebrated as one should do.

Locals Digger Peck, Swooper Moore and mum Pam, Ange Teasdale, Noel Robby, Toppy Fabry, Dale Spinks and Trainer Brendan Hearps all got their head in a great photo with Kerang Turf Club official Colleen Shay.

Pretty sure they’ll all be back next year, and will celebrate the same, win lose or draw.

It’s a great indication of what a wonderful event the races are for Kerang and district.

While strolling down the street last week I copped an “Oy” from one Wayne Radcliffe.

A much better catch up would have been great, Wayne, but we’ll get together one day.

Radda has always had a great sense of humour and in our cricketing days, some of his comments were gems, but that was quite a while ago.

Wayne might be doing a bit of drumming at the Exchange on Sunday arvo. Like the staged pic of The Doubt Brothers.

The Kerang Sporties was running a competition for a Fitbit which was won by Fonze Taylor.

Fonze has had his knee done and has been on a gopher for quite a while. This will make it a bit difficult to get the step count up on the Fitbit, Fonze, but if you keep bending the elbow, that should make the thing register a step.

All the very best to the Taylor family

There is a couple of Barham ladies who consistently attended the Australian Open tennis in Melbourne over the years.

COVID prevented their attendance about a bit but they were looking for tickets to this year’s open and then found out that the bloomin’ things have doubled in price.

That knocked that on the head pretty damn quick.

While speaking tennis, I watched Kokkinakis defeat sixth seed Kecmanovic last Thursday night in the Adelaide Open.

His match on Friday was the semi-final – only against the fourth seed. Hope he has done well and can work his way to a final.

Then there was the other tennis bloke who was chasing a wild card entry into the Australian Open but missed out.

That’s the one who always mentions how much money he has. For some reason, Kurl isn’t too concerned about him missing out (and here I go giving him air time. Enough, stop that immediately).

T’was a bit warm on the weekend. Some sport was most likely called off due to the heat rule.

For bowls, I think the cut of temperature might be 38. By gees, back in the day, we used to play when – you get the idea.

So the mums (and dads) only have about two more weeks to wait until the kids go back to school.

Some of the local programs run but the pool and NDCH have been excellent to get the kids out of the house – I mean entertain the cherubs.

The Sporties are taking over their kitchen and Chum has been hoping the food will be back on tomorrow.
