Only six wickets fell in the Kerang v Barham T20 match on January 14 (Barham 4 and Kerang 2). That was because so many catches were dropped on the day. One team dropped nine catches – or was that for the match? Not too sure.

The Kerang Cricket Club held an excellent back to that afternoon and evening.
Quite a few former legends of the club returned to meet old friends and reminisce about old times.
The Kerang Club is made up from many other clubs now combined. These include Footballers and Fairley, which became Fairley-Footballers, which was later joined by the Town club, which became Fairley-Town CC. Obviously there aren’t as many people playing cricket as there once were, but they all still enjoy it.

Lindsay Maplestone was one who attended the cricket back to. Mr Maplestone (a former teacher) played for Fairley and still lives locally, as does gun Town fast bowler Lindsay Hein, who also attended. Tony Laughlin was also a Fairley bloke and was curator for many years.
Ian Prendergast, who played for most of the teams mentioned prior to becoming the Kerang club, was a gun in his day (weren’t they all?) and also was chief curator for many years.
Among the other legends to turn up were Doug Small, Geoff Radcliffe, Peter and David Tate, Luke Redden and Tony Roberts.
Obviously a few names of former champions have been missed (Adam Clapham, Darren Marsh and Jason Brown) but we can’t mention them all. Noticed that Rowey and Johnny Edwards were having a good time!

Somehow heard that Doc Turvey had a bit of trouble with his attire while in the Royal Hotel the other week.
Someone pointed out that his shorts were on backwards. He did rectify the situation, but it turns out they were Dilly’s shorts anyway.
Mum didn’t dress you that morning Doc!

Kerry Jardine has been turning up to the Sporties out of uniform. Now we know that she retired a while ago, but she’s been in the office so often lately that a uniform is required.
Not too sure who won’t let go – the Sporties or you, Kerry? Good on you Kerry.

Someone drew it to my attention that Al Hird’s old club car has had the wrong numbers and letters on the front and back for quite a while.
All is in order now (or it bloomin’ well better be), but you’d think that Al would have realised just little bit sooner!

Local cricket umpire and all round good guy, John Hill, ticked over another year last week. Congrats John.
Hilly was a gun cricketer in his day and we only saw him in his twilight years in this area.
He captained a Melbourne and Bendigo Country Week cricket team for the Kyabram DCA in his day.
Those days are long gone but Hilly still enjoys the game and is an excellent umpire.

Just been asked what would I like for my final meal. (Hope there’s no plans to bump me off).
Would probably go with Eye Fillet Steak, (MR – R) mushroom sauce on the side, coz you just need that taste of steak occasionally, chips and a good salad (unless the vegies were perfect).
But then again, Roast Lamb, once again perfect vegies – or Roast Pork. Maybe fish. Obviously depends how you feel at the time.

Had a bit of a chat to Matt Hawken last week, and of course we were talking politics.
Matt has moved seamlessly into the administration side of the game and reckons that Leitchville Gunny will be in the mix this year in the HDFNL.
They will still be a pretty young outfit , but I’m sure they’ll give it a red hot crack.
Matt really has his finger of the pulse in local footy. Knows everyone, knows where they’re all playing. Enjoyed the chat Matt.
