Time for footy and holidays

Bumped into Luke “Chubby” Fulton in Kerang last week. Chubby came over and played a bit of footy for Wandella and was lucky to grab a flag or two.

Think that wife Mandy had a bit to do with him heading over from the Raiders.

Chubby has retired but had a brilliant stint of footy, playing right up to his use-by date, and now his kids are playing footy at the Raiders.

Mandy is probably still playing netball.

Vern Walsh has been spotted loitering in the main street, as he is on holidays from driving the school bus. Great to catch up, Walshy.

Johnny Pay launched his party boat at Barham over Easter. A few lucky friends piled on board, including Conda and wife Jodi, and all had a wonderful trip along the river.

The River isn’t flowing that fast at the moment, but the word is that the champagne was making up for the lack of flow, to the joy of Jodi.

Also, over at Barham during Easter the local Lions Club ran a bit of a day at the park just over the Bridge. It was all free. Sausages, drinks, the lot. It’s brilliant when local clubs can put on days of fun for families and kids.

Someone said it was “amazing”. Well done to the Barham-Koondrook Lions Club.

Did I see Ned Pay cleaning up a caravan that was in his front yard there a couple of weeks ago? So he’s been talked into it ay?

The word is that a few folks are taking a bit of a trip up the middle at some stage this year.

Sure it will be a great trip.

The first round of footy was played in some pretty wet conditions, and it’s interesting that Macorna defeated Wandella on Wandella’s home turf.

Now that has always been a tough place for opposition teams to grab a victory, but the word is that Wandella didn’t want to get dirty, with Macorna being hungry for the footy.

Kerang had a pretty good win and a new recruit did pretty well in the ruck, so we’re told.

Well done, Langy. Sure you will enjoy your time at the Blues – everyone does.

Cohuna started the year with the first match on Good Friday, which caught them by surprise a bit. Saturday’s match against local rival Koondrook-Barham was always guaranteed to draw a big crowd.

The AFL haven’t filled Brad Scott’s spot as the umpiring bloke, Gil’s spot is about to become vacant and didn’t another board member just get poached by the NBL? Maybe they aren’t paying them enough.

The problem is if they pay them more, country footy would get less. Notice that is said as if we get heaps now.

David Warner: Tubby says he should be guaranteed three Test appearances. Candice Warner defends her husband, as she should, by saying who is going to replace him that is better? I’d say someone who is making more runs, and there are quite a few of them.
