From Test cricket to Fantales

With Botty the other week following my long trip from Oscar’s place, we were discussing AFL footy, then realised that we would both get a reprieve from watching our teams cop a hiding – the Kangaroos and Blues – as we could tune into the Ashes cricket.

Definitely more chance of being with the winning team, there, Rus.

The Blues don’t win enough, and the Roos keep losing with respect.

And the Aussie women won their Ashes Test against the Pommy ladies. Great job.

The best Test bowling figures of all time by an Aussie was achieved in the Test by Ashleigh Gardner, taking 12 wickets for the match.

Figures of 8/66 is the second best of all time and match figures of 12/165 are also second best of all time.

A double century by England’s Tommy Beaumont wasn’t enough to gain victory, but worthy of a mention.

Caught up with old friends Rob and Ann Shannahan. Got to first meet Ron when his sons, Tim and Matt, played a bit of good footy and cricket with Wandella.

The long-time Cohuna legends were in Kerang, and although Rob has lost a yard or two, it wasn’t his pace that held me up.

Then there is the news that Fantales will be discontinued. The cost of printing the different lolly labels has obviously risen to an extent beyond the cut off mark.

There goes an easy preparation of entertainment questions for trivia nights.

Did I hear that Dan Andrews gets a 3.5 per cent pay rise? Last time Dan spoke to me, he said his government had “filled 60,000 pot holes”. That is a direct quote.

Reckon that 3.5 per cent could be used to fix the remaining 1.8 million potholes. That is a direct estimate. Of course, 67 per cent of statistics are fabricated – 85 per cent of the people know that.

On another note, I’m bitterly disappointed in the Russian insurrection outcome. It’s hard to find a committed revolutionary these days.

The Kerang Football Netball Club will be happy to get back into some action this week following the bye, then the Central Murray mid-season break.

Against Swan Hill, the Colts is a game they can’t let slip, and the Swan Hill Under 14.5s are only two spots below Kerang on the ladder.

We’re backing four wins in the footy, but it’s also a game the A Grade netballers would love to win to catch up to the Swans.

Workplaces can be quite hectic sometimes, and it’s very easy for managers to become snowed under.

Last week a sign appeared on one manager’s door stating “Do not disturb, buying Taylor Swift tickets.”

This manager may not wish to be known, but her full name is Jenna Mobilio from The Guardian in Swan Hill.

Hope you got the tickets, Jenna.

Could be a bit of a problem with flooding as most catchments are pretty full and got some rain late last week.

River is full at Koondrook, so hopefully the breaches in the banks towards Benjeroop don’t get overrun.

Most of the banks are privately owned so it’s the landholders’ responsibility. Does that mean they could build the banks as high as they like?

Government hanging onto the water so they don’t lose money.
