Old mates, footy and Test cricket

HEADED to Mitiamo for footy the other week and ran into a couple of old mates in Brad Spence and Noel Hercus.

Brad is looking fit enough to still be having a run in the twos (maybe not) and he indicated old teammate Noel was timekeeping for the reserves.

Thought it would be best to go over for a bit of a chat and the first thing he had to say was, “you’ve put on weight”. Yep, he’s always been on the ball.

Another thing that I learnt from Noel was, don’t trust anything Howard McClelland says.

We will await Aldo’s response.

Former Wandella premiership coach Ash Wilson was also at the footy, and it was great to have a catch-up.

Mind you, he didn’t move far from the bar, as that’s where good mate and another former Wandella premiership player, Brett Hay, was lurking (for the whole day).

Last edition, Kurl mentioned one workmate but decided he’d better not make too many enemies, so another workmate was omitted from the Komment.

Well, as we are short on news (that’s for you Christine), Christine Hildenhagen copped one from the work car tailgate that fell on her and pushed her into the side of the car. The result was a split above the eyebrow. As she said, the scare hasn’t ruined the moneymaker, framing her face with her hands.

So we can’t let the week go without a mention of the second Test carry-on.

Firstly, Mitchell Starc controlled the ball but then rubbed it on the grass (better than sandpaper). Fair enough. No catch – as per the rules, and we’ll cop that.

Then there is Bairstow’s stumping. This stumping was done by someone who keeps wickets better than Bairstow does and was clearly out.

Apart from all the who-ha and the Pom’s hypocrisy and double standards, the main problem I have is that Bairstow hung around. He didn’t walk. He should have been in the pavilion by the time the third umpire gave him out.

I could go on but there is no point. 2-nil.

For the third Test we have Todd Murphy getting a game to replace Lyon.

Hopefully the selectors trust him. Mitch Marsh with a ton.

I admit it was probably time to drop Green but wouldn’t have thought Marsh as a replacement. Thought his time was up. But now, well done big fella.

And will the Poms change their game plan for the third Test? Probably should, but most likely won’t. Bazball has been Baz-found out.

azz./.z, (whoops – left the document open and grandson Fletcher tried to help out.) dgfdg – and again. Ctrl SAVE.

In a mad rush to get the tips on in all five tipping competitions prior to Thursday night’s match, I asked Digger Peck, Fremantle or Carlton?

Rather than give an answer as to who would win, because Digger is smarter than that, he said: “I don’t like Carlton”.

Now I barrack for Carlton and never tip them correctly. The funny thing is, I’m not too sure if I like them either.

Digger is leading the tipping competition in reference so he gave nothing away. Clever.
