Kurl’s comments for the week

Interesting that some of the potholed roads in the local area still haven’t been fixed.

The highway towards Bendigo has a very bad section at the Appin South Road which has been mentioned several times before.

The highway has been fixed in two places either side of the Appin South Road section. Repairs to the highway at the Tragowel Swamp were desperately needed, but one section further south was repaired when the road wasn’t too bad.

At least there were no speed restriction signs on this section, but it was repaired and resealed again anyway. I say again as it was also fully repaired approximately seven years ago.

And then the Victorian Government brag they have spent more on roads than ever. As they bloomin’ well should. We’ve had two major floods since 2011.

Have to stop this rant as my soapbox is shifting.

Saw Gratten Douglass in the optometrist the other day. Gratten looks fit as a fiddle and sharp as a tack.

A great Appin footy man and a brilliant player in his day, so I’ve heard.

Kerang Turf Club have picked up another full TAB meeting for August 12.

It seems that Mildura hasn’t fully recovered from the floods, so the meeting had to go somewhere, to the delight of club president Dasher Connelly.

Free entry to the day should get a pretty good crowd, you’d think. Spend the day watching a TAB meeting with friends.

A day at the Mallee Machinery Field Days at Speed was well spent and it was great to have a chat to Andrew and Mardy McDonald. Yep, we talked cricket and footy.

Both lads love their sport and Andrew has had a great career nabbing a flag (or two) at Kerang and now playing for his home club Mallee Eagles.

Mardy has had a couple of games in the seniors also. Great to have a chat, fellas. All the very best.

While at the field days, I also ran into old mate Glen McKissack. Must admit that I didn’t recognise Macka until he introduced himself. That’s an age thing right there.

Macka has been a rippin’ footballer and cricketer from Quamby in his day and still looks fit enough to be playing.

Glen was with work partner Trevor Doolan, of Mallee Hay, with his top gun aviators. Trevor is the better half of The Guardian ad rep Brooke Doolan (or is it the other way round?)
