End of season celebrations

Not many thought that Collingwood could do it (except Collingwood supporters) and had Brisbane as favourites. It seems the majority thought that Brisbane would win because they appeared more convincing.

But there was a reason that the Pies finished on top.

Well done to both teams.

And a great job by the Blues the other week bringing home a couple of footy flags and a couple of netball flags as well. Four from four, got to be happy with that.

We all must assume that the club is still celebrating and will continue to do so until they hold their annual presentation night at least.

Then it will be back to business to build up for next season. There is no need to allow anyone else to win it – we all strive for the same prize.

Speaking of footy, local clubs have been busy recruiting coaches for the 2024 season with Coatsey being booked in for another year at the Blues as a non-playing coach. Reckon he could still get a game but his body must be having more of a say now. All the best, Troy, at Kerang.

Haven’t heard much about what’s happening over Cohuna way and Koondrook-Barham have also been pretty quiet.

Don’t get over that way much anymore, but we know that Cohuna will stay playing locally rather than head off to the Heathcote league.

Hopefully both teams have a better year in 2024.

Wandella has gone with joint coaches in Adam Ward and Justin Robinson. Having Tinny back will be a boost to the club and if they can keep their current list and add a couple they’ll do well.

Macorna have been busy recruiters in the past few years and their juniors have been very strong. With their list being topped up by the kids and then a few choice picks they also will be looking good for 2024.

Haven’t heard a thing about Murrabit but they have a strong club base and will no doubt have a good crack next year.

The Wandella fourths won the flag and the Taylor family were well represented with Alby Lancaster, Will Taylor and Ned Crellin all featuring in the premiership.

Following the game these cousins, all great grandsons of Wandella life member Kath Taylor, went to Kerang District Health to visit Kath and show her their premiership medallions. She proudly hugged each one.

Kath sadly passed away a week later.

Although I’ve seen Tunna Roberts and Graeme Hayes around a bit lately, I haven’t heard a thing about local bowls.

Both bowling clubs are very well supported in Kerang and then the Cohuna and Barham clubs are also very strong.

This is the most popular sport in the district and the local teams fight it out for pennants in all grades each year.

Aren’t the state pairs being played at Cohuna?

Looking online it says that Pat Quinn takes on Arthur Stephen – coupla locals. Not too sure if I’ve read that right, but if so, all the best to all players.
