Locals helping locals

Encouraging to see locals helping locals when a caravan unhooked from the tow-ball in the main street of Kerang last week and made a bit of noise as it was dragged by the chains down the street.

Once the ute and van had stopped, it was great to see locals jump out of their own vehicles to help and get the local motorist on their way in no time.

One local handyman grabbed a jemmy bar from the back of his ute to help, but I’m not too sure if the bar was any help. Got them on their way in no time – well done to all.

Then on the other hand, I happened to witness one car back into another. The car that copped it also tooted their horn but the reversing car didn’t hear it and a slight nudge was the result.

The car that tooted pulled in up the street a bit but the reversing car just drove off. @#$%*.

Solved a few of the world’s problems with Arthur Broad the other day.

Wouldn’t it be great if the world would just listen and take notice, Arthur? All the best to the former Yarrawalla footy star. Now that was a while ago!

There were quite a few former locals in town attending the funeral of Kath Taylor.

Roby and Vicki Manuel left Kerang 14 years ago. Crikey, Roby, I would have guessed nine or 10 at the most.

Buck and Brenda Davies have retired to Huntley and Bruce was having his shoulder done soon. He couldn’t even give an enthusiastic hand shake. All the best, Buck, hope it is all ok.

Brendan and Denise Lancaster are now living on the way to the mountains – yep – you can tell that I don’t really remember. Brendan is driving around Victoria selling pool stuff, and enjoying it. Good on you, folks.

Gerald Murphy was another who came back and caught up with many old friends. Believe the Murphys are now over Kyneton way – once again, I could have that wrong.

Gerald is father of former Wandella premiership play Aiden Murphy who was lucky enough to captain a junior premiership back in 08 then played in a senior flag in 2009.

All the best to Aidos.

Had to walk into Autopro last week after the Pies had claimed the flag, if only to give Lefty a chance to gloat.

You’d have to say that Bruce has had a fairly successful year football-wise. Firstly, his team the Kerang Reserves had a big win in the CMFNL grand final and then the Pies the following week.

Would love to know who will challenge Collingwood for next year’s flag as they won’t get any worse, but Brizzy will be up there again and hopefully, another team could do a bit better (not holding my breath).

A job well done to the Cohuna Progress Association on their successful Chilli Festival held on the grand final public holiday.

The brainchild of local Tanya Harvey and capably organised by the association, the festival was a hot topic for discussion that weekend (Yep, pun intended – sorry)

This festival is one thing that would make that grand final holiday worthwhile for us country folk.

Congratulations to the Cohuna Progress Association and all concerned.

The Leitchville road has been fixed, so I’m told. Woohoo. Out near the Appin South road the highway is still a mess and, while I’m on it, Wellington Street in Kerang will need some work fairly soon too.

This following cars being damaged by one pothole on the Monash. They clearly didn’t have a 40 sign up, he says sarcastically.
