Out and about

THE Kerang Show held on Monday, October 9, appears to have been a resounding success.

Great support from local families saw crowd numbers, most likely, better than expected.

Ag Society president Sharon Ash was super pleased with the show.

Turns out that Sharon is the first female president in the 137 years of the Kerang & District Agricultural Society.

That’s a pretty good record to hold, Sharon, and one you should be suitably proud of.

LAINE Gibbons has been busy in his new spot in the Shire office and has had to dress up for this position.

He has also been busy over the winter months coaching the kids out at the Wandella Footy Club. Sure that the coaching job has been very rewarding.

Then there is cricket coming up too. Having missed the first week of cricket, I think the Wandella lads should probably start him in the B Grade and let him get some form.

All the best Laine.

FRANZY & KJ were having their weekly coffee and Kurl very nearly walked past without seeing them.

Of course these two were solving water flow concerns across the whole country – among other things.

Footy wasn’t mentioned at all in this chat but KJ would have been only half happy with Melbourne’s effort this season. Crikey KJ, beaten by Carlton in the semi-final. Don’t think anyone would be happy with that.

Franzy would be waiting with bated breath on the draft before he would even mention the Kangaroos.

THE street works are progressing fairly well with the west side of Victoria street being closed of last week for a while. It’s all happening pretty quickly and will look sensational once complete.

BEEFY Wandin could only stop for a quick chat last week as he was busier than a one-armed bricklayer. Keep at it Beefy, someone has to.

JUST a recent observation that you wouldn’t normally acknowledge. Tall stools in pubs are difficult for short people to climb up and get comfortable on. Then they have trouble moving the stools closer to the tables.

But they manage.

LOCAL lad Chris Barnes works in Swan Hill and drives there every day. I believe that the 40km signs this side of Lake Charm would annoy him no end.

One lane seems OK but drivers coming the other way often cross the white lines to avoid the gigantic pot hole. Crikey! I almost spilt my coffee the other day, and I was only doing 40.

WHILE speaking of local staff, Noel Fisher is a journo who gets over Kerang, Cohuna and Koondrook-Barham areas quite often. He’ll be a local soon.

THE draft has finished and quite a few footballers found new homes.

Swan Hill product Paddy Dow is off to the Saints and we wish him all the very best.

I know that keen Saints supporters, Ron Kelly and Jack Whitehead are pleased to have him. All the best Mr Dow.
