Out and about

Caught up with old mate Dale Hartley out front of one of the Victoria Street eateries, while he was doing a bit of painting.

Sorry Dale, but I didn’t have time to stop and chat as we were both a bit busy, although that’s never stopped me before.

All the best and hope you are well.

Keith Jacobs is out of action for a while and is now in his seventh week off work following a bit of an injury. He tried to go back to work but they sent him home until he is 100 per cent.

Jake has always been a worker and this would probably be annoying him a bit.

Seems that Jake has pulled his bicep from the bone (Phfft. He’s soft).

Glenn Maxwell had a bit of a night out over in India last week against Afghanistan, claiming a few records on the way. A notable record is that he is the first male batsman to score a double ton in an ODI run chase and also the first time a non-opener has scored a double ton. Belinda Clark scored 229 against Denmark in 1997.

Yep, good effort that.

The local Rotary Club have been upgrading the seat that has been taken from the clock tower corner.

Currently it is at Slenderline Cabinets, and Terry Ayers and the team have been replacing the old timbers with that recycled plastic stuff. It looks great and should be back on the corner in a week or two.

The seat was originally built by Ollie Jane and his mates at Rotary, then placed on the corner about 15 to 20 years ago. Not too sure if that’s accurate, but it was a while ago.

Great effort by the local service club

Russel Bott is currently in Perth playing in over-60 National Cricket. Most likely in the second team, Botty will be helping out with keeping duties and then looking to score heaps.

I imagine that in this competition there isn’t as much desire to stay at the crease and make big scores as there used to be from these serious cricket-lovers. Get a few Botty, all the best

Nick Oliver has been playing for the Southern Riverina team in the Colston-Scammell Shield which is an under-16 comp. Nick, being a younger age kid at only 13, has been named player of the tournament for his consistent efforts with bat and ball over the three rounds and most definitely should get a gig in the same squad next year (what about the year after?)

Flynn McKnight is also playing in an under-16 competition in Hamilton in the State Championships.

Get into ‘em Flynn, and hope you get the gloves also.

Great effort lads.

Gannawarra Times ad rep, Christine Hildenhagen has ticked over a full year working for the paper. Workmates Deb and Kurl will be given citizenship awards for putting up with her at the next ceremony.

Seriously, congrats Christine, you are appreciated.

There is an ad on the TV claiming that the current men’s test team is the best in our generation. I must say that I am really concerned as to what generation the ad refers to. Not mine. We had Alan Border’s team that started as the worst Australian team for a long time, but became quite strong. Mark Taylor’s team was in there somewhere then there was Steve Waugh and the gang, then Ricky Ponting’s team, then Michael Clark’s.

I think this is probably the worst team since Alan Border took over. But then the memory is going and it’s all up for discussion.
